For the last 25 years health care executives have been talking about integration.
Integration has meant to some to have "physician bonding" and to others "physician alignement" but few have seen the real vison of the integration of financing care and delivering care.
Few tangible or intangible products are purchased today without the seller also arranging for the financing to help the consumer gain access to the services.
This concept is changing health care with banks and financial instituitions introducing a means to create revenue for themselves by doing something the providers could have done early on and that is invent a way to improve care delivery and ALSO find a way to finance it in a manner the consumer understands. This can be a partnership with self funded employers, formation of a trust fund that aggregates smaller groups into a purchasing cooperative or building an ownership interest with a local favored insurance company to create a product that is local and therefore custom designed to the community.
